Distinguishing Characteristics

Often called "mini-chow," Oscar is actually a "big boned" pomeranian.

Do you have any canine housemates?

I have a pitbull-type brother named Bo who is actually a Safe Humane Court Case Dog.

How did you join your family?

I was rescued from the Anti-Cruelty Society here in Chicago. My mom was looking for a Mastiff to rescue and in the end it was a pomeranian that stole her heart.

Do you have any “jobs”? Tell us about them and what you like most about them.

I'm in charge of vacuuming up any crumbs that may fall on the floor and helping my mom keep the floors clean.

Do you do any tricks? What is your favorite?

I really like to spin. My favorite is any trick that involves a food reward at the end.

What is your favorite toy?

I'm not really a toy guy but I will chase my brother when he plays fetch and occasionally get the tennis ball from him. A pomeranian with a big tennis ball is a pretty funny sight, I've heard.

What is your favorite treat?

Chicken!!! Chicken anything but the real deal is my favorite.

What do you like to do when your parents aren’t home?

When I'm not sleeping on the sofa I am probably thinking about where my mom is and if she will bring me home my very own rotisserie chicken.

Is there anything you would like to tell us about your work with Safe Humane Chicago or anything else?

I love meeting all of the kids and enjoy my work helping to teach them to respect animals. I love it when a kid comes up to meet me and is a little unsure, and then leaves with a big smile on his or her face - this really makes my day. I'm proud of the work we do and hope to do more in the coming year.
