Claire is a female American Bulldog/Shar-Pei mix born on 9/14/2007.

Distinguishing Characteristics

Claire has a thick red coat and amazing gold eyes.

Do you have any canine housemates?

Yes, a shy, sensitive greyhound brother named Felix.

How did you join your family?

My mom volunteers for Safe Humane Chicago and often participates in the Lifetime Bonds program at the Illinois Youth Center Chicago.  I was one of the "shelter dogs" brought from Chicago Canine Rescue to help the boys learn how to train and socialize dogs.  My mom had been thinking about a sibling for Felix but knew that that dog would have to be calm and polite.  And I am...most of the time!  They fostered me for a few months, then decided Felix could tolerate me, but probably couldn't tolerate another new dog, so they decided to keep me forever!

Do you have any “jobs”? Tell us about them and what you like most about them.

I really like nose work - it's super-fun and I get lots of treats when I do it right!

Do you do any tricks? What is your favorite?

Yep, I'm a fast learner so I know lots of tricks.  My favorite is probably "say your prayers" but I can also give high-fives and "go to sleep" and am working on more advanced things like "pick it up and bring it here."

What is your favorite toy?

Squeaky fluffy things that I can shake.

What is your favorite treat?

I'm not picky, but I do love a Kong stuffed with bananas and peanut butter!

What do you like to do when your parents aren’t home?

Sleep quietly in my crate, which makes my parents so happy.

Is there anything you would like to tell us about your work with Safe Humane Chicago or anything else?

My parents are pretty sure they wouldn't have met me if it weren't for Safe Humane Chicago.  Now they can't imagine their lives without me.  And I think they're pretty swell, too.  Working with Safe Humane Chicago means that I help to spread the word about the amazing bond between humans and animals and get lots of love and treats in the process.  What could be better?
