Distinguishing Characteristics

Amber is a very laid back and gentle dog who doesn't have an aggressive bone in her body.  When she sees children, adults or other dogs of any size coming towards us down the street, her butt twitches back and forth, her tail is going back and forth like crazy and she cocks her head so her ears are up and turns her head and looks at people with her pet me pet me look - strangers have asked me "does she want us to pet her" and I tell them yes so then she's happy when she gets her pets.  Because her back legs are splayed, she appears to prance when she walks.  Amber only barks when playing with other dogs and does not jump on people - very well mannered.

Do you have any canine housemates?

No, 2 cats.

How did you join your family?

I was rescued through Lucky Dog Rescue.  And I am so lucky.  I will add because of the bad rap that dogs like me receive, I had to become a service dog to stay in my mom's building.  One and a half years later, all the people who disliked me cannot keep their hands off me!  So, I have turned around negative publicity simply by being myself - kind and sweet.

Do you have any “jobs”? Tell us about them and what you like most about them.

I work with my mom who is a volunteer for  Safe Humane Chicago/DAWG and The Anti-Cruelty Society.  She has been a court advocate for DAWG for over 3 years.

Do you do any tricks? What is your favorite?

As long as treats are around, I will sit up, give paw, go down.  My favorite trick is sitting because I hope food is involved!

What is your favorite treat?

Duck jerky.

What do you like to do when your parents aren’t home?

Sleep - I love to sleep - and have NEVER destroyed anything in the house nor have I had any accidents in the house either.

Is there anything you would like to tell us about your work with Safe Humane Chicago or anything else?

Because of my easy-going personality/temperment and delight when people pay attention to me, I love being an Ambassador Dog!  The only thing I have to watch - I love to give kisses - and some people may not like that.
