Oscar

Oscar born on Dec. 27th, 2007 is a handsome male Pomeranian.

His distinguishing characteristics: often misidentified as a "mini chow" or a mop, Oscar is a giant sable Pomeranian weighing in at 16 lbs. Don't call him fat, he is just big boned.  Often called "mini-vac" he could find food in a desert and his favorite word is "treat." An avid swimmer and fetch player, he manages his weight with regular workouts. He is a small dog with a big dog personality, and in his next life, will rule the world.

Do you have any brothers or sisters?

Yes, I have one sister named Moxie, she is a hound mix. My mom and dad brought her back from Belize where my mom used to do some work. I also have two cousins: Leo, a Pomeranian Papillion mix and a Jazz, a black Lab.

How did you join your family?

My mom and dad were about to adopt a Mastiff, if you can believe it, when on a whim they took one last trip to the Anti Cruelty Society where they said, “It was love at first sight.” I was actually born there after my mom was brought in because her owners couldn’t afford us once we were born.

Do you have any jobs? Tell us about them and what you like most about them.
I just started working in some Chicago Schools as part of the Youth Leaders Program with Best Friends. I also work at Illinois Youth Center (IYC) as part of the Lifetime Bonds program. I also have to work hard to make sure my sister behaves; she’s the nutty one in the family.

Do you have any “hobbies”?

I really love to play in the snow. I really like to swim too. We spend a lot of time in Wisconsin at my family’s lakehouse where we can race around and swim whenever we want. There are almost always at least four dogs around and we have a blast together. I think we had 9 dogs up there once!

Do you do any tricks?  What is your favorite?

I like tricks because tricks=food. I’m good at high five and I’m learning to roll over.

What is your favorite toy?

My chill pill stuffed toy

What do you like to do when your parents aren’t home?

My sister and I like to play “race track” where we run and jump on every surface in the house. Unfortunately my parents can tell when we’ve played because we make a big mess.

Is there anything you would like to tell us about your work with Safe Humane Chicago or anything else?

I really love working with Safe Humane because I feel like I’m making a difference in people’s lives while helping them to learn more about us. I’ve met a lot of great dogs and people along the way.
